ABOUT TAPROOT TLC
The Taproot Leadership Programme
In person leadership training & development in Suffolk, Norfolk or the wider East Anglia region or online from anywhere in the world.
Here’s the problem most providers don’t actually solve.
You’ve sat in the meeting where everyone nodded and nothing changed. You’ve rehearsed the conversation in your head many times and still found a reason to put it off. You’ve watched a good team go quiet during a change they should have been leading, and you’ve wondered, not for the first time, why the same things keep happening to you, to them, to the business.
Most leaders in your position reach for another course, a new framework, a better model for giving feedback or managing change and most of the time, it doesn’t stick because the problem was never a lack of frameworks. It’s something underneath them.
What this leadership development programme actually solves
If you lead people, you’ll recognise at least one of these. Most leaders we work with recognise all four.
Difficult conversations that don’t happen.
The feedback you keep meaning to give. The conflict between two team members that everyone can see except, apparently, them. The conversation about performance, or behaviour, or direction, that you’ve been carrying around for weeks because some part of you suspects it won’t go well.
Communication that keeps breaking down.
You say one thing, they hear another. The message that felt completely clear in the meeting room gets interpreted six different ways by the time it reaches the team. You explain the same thing for the third time and still don’t know why it isn’t landing.
Stress that’s become the baseline.
Not a bad week. Not a difficult quarter. A low hum of pressure that’s been there so long you’ve almost stopped noticing it — except your body hasn’t, and neither has your patience, and neither, probably, has your team.
Teams that resist change without anyone understanding why.
You’ve explained the reasoning. You’ve answered the questions. And still there’s a drag, a quiet resistance, a sense that people are complying rather than actually moving with you.
These four things are rarely four separate problems; they’re a cycle. Constant change creates stress. Stress erodes communication. Poor communication means the difficult conversations get avoided. And avoiding conversations makes the next change even harder to land.
Most leadership training treats each of these as its own topic: a module on communication, one on change management, and one on having difficult conversations. You leave with four sets of notes and the cycle fully intact, because nobody addressed the thing actually driving it.
The Taproot Leadership Programme is built differently. It works on the underlying system, the patterns, beliefs, and dynamics that create all four problems at once. Break the cycle at its root, and you don’t just get better at difficult conversations. You get a fundamentally different way of leading.
What the leadership programme actually involves
The Taproot Leadership Programme is six-session leadership development programme for senior leaders or founders. Sessions run fortnightly, three hours each, delivered online or in person across East Anglia. That length and rhythm are deliberate. Three hours is long enough to do real work, not skim the surface. Fortnightly is close enough to maintain momentum, far enough apart that you have time to put things into practice and come back with something real to reflect on.
Across the six sessions, you’ll work with three frameworks that, combined, are rare to find in one programme:
NLP
To understand the patterns, states and internal processes that drive your behaviour and other people’s, especially under pressure.
Transactional Analysis
To understand the deeper relational dynamics playing out beneath every difficult conversation, every communication breakdown, every moment of resistance.
Motivational Maps
A validated psychometric tool that gives you and your team a precise, evidence-based picture of what’s actually driving performance, engagement and resistance to change.
This isn’t theory delivered from the front of a room. Every session includes practical application, real leadership situations, peer feedback from people who understand exactly what you’re navigating, and a clear thread of reflection between sessions so the learning stays alive in the gaps, not just in the room.
How the six sessions unfold
Session one
Establishes the foundation, understanding your own patterns under pressure, and where the cycle of change, stress, communication and avoidance shows up most in your own leadership.
Sessions two and three
Work directly with communication and the psychology of difficult conversations — why some conversations go wrong before a word is spoken, and how to change that.
Sessions four and five
Address stress, resilience and leading through change, not through generic resilience tips, but through understanding what’s actually happening for you and your team when change creates resistance.
Session six
Bring it together, integrating everything into a sustainable, personal way of leading that holds up under real pressure, not just in the room with eleven supportive peers.
Throughout, Motivational Maps gives you a tangible before-and-after measure completed at the start of the programme and again at the end, so the change isn’t just something you feel. It’s something you can see.
Who this is for
This programme is built for senior leaders and founders in growing businesses. Those who are navigating genuine pressure, real people challenges, and the kind of complexity that doesn’t have a textbook answer.
It’s right for you if you recognise the cycle described above. If you’re self-aware enough to suspect that at least part of the answer lies in how you show up, not just in what your team does. If you’re ready to be challenged by people facing similar challenges.
It’s probably not for you if you’re looking for a checklist, a quick fix, or a reason to avoid looking at your own patterns. The leaders who get the most from this programme are the ones willing to be honest with themselves about the conversation they’ve been avoiding, the pattern they keep repeating, and the cost of leading the way they currently lead.
